Boating on Santeelah lake, Robbinsville, NC
Lake Santeelah is a beautiful and peaceful place. We rent a house from
Southland Realty in Robbinsville, North Carolina each year and enjoy a
wonderful, stress free week on the lake. There are several boat ramps on
Lake Santeelah. One is located at the ranger station on highway 143.
There is another ramp at the Cheoah Recreation site close to the dam. Each
morning we would take the boat out on the still, quite waters and make waves as
we knee boarded and wake boarded. As we passed by the marina the fog would
just be lifting off the water and rising over the mountain. (You can see why
they are called the Great Smokies.). There is also a waterski slalom coarse
located in a cove close to the dam to the left.

Lake Santeelah is fed from several mountain streams. These streams make
wonderful curving paths back into the mountains. While you have to be
careful going around the blind bends at speed it is huge fun to kneeboard or
wakebaord back into these secluded places.
And there are plenty of places to drop anchor and float for a while.
The steep mountain terrain means that there is always a cove somewhere where
there is no wind and the water is clam. If the water is rough on one part
of the lake, just go somewhere else.
Be careful in the area of the lake across from the marina. There are a
couple of mountain tops that are just below the surface of the water. At
times they are even exposed. Know where these are before skiing or
wakeboarding near them. Would make for a nasty place to fall or could cause
damage to your boat it you were to hit one.
Some of the pictures of our boat below were made from Highway 129 also known
as the Dragons tail. Lake Santeelah is a great place to enjoy your boat.
