JeepGirl TravelsJoyce Kilmer Forest Hiking trail"I think that I shall never see A poem lovely as a tree." Are these words familiar? They were written by Joyce Kilmer (1886-1916) a poet who was killed in WWI. The Joyce Kilmer Forest is a portion of the Natahala National Forest which was set aside to honor the solider and poet Joyce Kilmer. The forest is full of 400+ year old trees. Some of the trees are approximately 20 feet in circumference and some more than 100 feet high. The hike is approximately two miles long and is rated easy. Hiking through this part of the forest is relaxing and enjoyable for those who enjoy nature and would like an easy hike. It is a good trail to take young children, and with the trees shading overhead it makes for a pleasant hike. The hike is actually two trails that interconnect at the memorial stone. Check out the pictures and see for yourself; it's a beautiful place. The Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest is located about 15 miles from Robbinsville, NC. Take 129N out of Robbinsville to 143W (Massey Branch RD); turn left and go about 5 miles. Turn right onto Kilmer RD and drive about 7.3 miles. Bear right at the Skyway and travel 2.5 miles to the entrance on the left. Have fun hiking and Happy Traveling from Jeep Girl
