Blue Ridge Scenic railway
If you are traveling the mountains of North Carolina or Georgia with children you should check out Blue Ridge, Georgia and the Blue Ridge Mountain Scenic Railway. Parents, children and others all run to jump aboard when the conductor calls "All Aboard!" This is a 3.5 hour trip from Blue Ridge, GA to McCaysville, GA/ Copperhill, TN. The train has nine cars dating back to 1924. There is one commissary car and one first-class air conditioned car and three open aired cars. The red locomotive was built in the 1950s and is about 30 feet high. Each car has its own host and they are all friendly and helpful. The train ride takes you by the Toccoa River which is renowned for flyfishing. Also you can see many 200 year old fishtraps that were set up by the Cherokees at points along the river. When you arrive in McCaysville/Copperhill you can shop its many stores and meet many interesting people. There is a 1.5 hour stop in McCaysville. When you return to Blue Ridge check out all the shops by the depot. If you like antiques, old books or finding that little souvenir check out Blue Ridge, GA. The train runs Friday through Monday. Ticket prices from June through September are $26 for adults and $13 for children. They also offer a Fall Color Ride in October and a Santa Train ride in December with prices for these being $28 for adults and $15 for children.
